Water System

Water Sources
The water provided by the City of Southaven's Utility Division is pumped out of the Memphis Sand aquifer utilizing 11 ground water supply wells and sent to four water treatment plants where it is treated and tested to safeguard public health.

The Utilities Division maintains a highly trained and licensed staff of personnel to ensure the water we supply to our customers meets or exceeds federal and State water quality standards. In accordance with federal and State requirements, we prepare and submit a Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) to our customers and state officials.

System Capacity
Our water system consists of the following:
  • Wells
  • Treatment plants
  • Distribution system of water mains
  • Eight elevated water towers
The system provides water to approximately 45,000 people or 15,000 customers in the area and is currently operating at approximately 62% of its rated design capacity.

Mississippi Department of Health Rating of Five
Our current overall capacity rating for the water system is 4.7 out of a possible 5 from the Mississippi Department of Health inspections. We have millions of dollars invested in water facilities and continue to budget money for continued maintenance and expansion on a yearly basis.
