Affordable, Healthy & Secure Living
Southaven offers a variety of housing choices in a wide range of prices from patio homes and estates to apartments and senior housing.
Tax-Friendly to Retirees
When it comes to taxes, Mississippi is tax-friendly to retirees. Qualified retirement income is exempt from State income tax and Social Security is not taxed - regardless of total income. Persons 65 years of age and older are exempt from ad valorem taxes up to $75,000 of the market value on homestead property.
The range of comprehensive health care services offered in Southaven brings convenience and peace of mind. With a major hospital located in the heart of the City and numerous private physician practices, behavioral health services, pharmacies, dental practices, and health specialists nearby, it is no surprise that Southaven serves as a regional health mecca.
Our well-supported police force has become a national role model, reaffirming the peaceful sense of security felt in Southaven. Full-time fire professionals serve the community, and our excellent fire rating gives peace of mind and a lower cost on homeowner's insurance. Although we have occasional severe weather, Southaven residents enjoy a warm. southern exposure without the threat of tropical storms.
There’s plenty to do when family comes to visit. The annual Springfest brings more than 90,000 fun-seekers to town. A parade, midway rides, live music, and the biggest barbecue competition in Mississippi keeps the fun going for three days.
Events like Fourth of July fireworks, the Fishing Rodeo, the Christmas parade, the Veterans Luncheon, and Breakfast with Santa round out the year. Since we’re only 15 minutes away from Memphis, its just a short drive to the zoo, amusement park, riverboat rides, Children’s Museum, botanical gardens, and more.
For family worship, there are nearly 90 churches representing 25 different denominations in our area. Our churches conduct special programs throughout the year and are very involved in the community.
