Mission Statement

The mission of the Southaven Fire Department's Training Division is to provide ongoing training, education, and certification to fire service personnel who are necessary to ensure a competent, efficient, and effective emergency response organization. This Division also desires to provide the necessary research, evaluation, and recommendations for new products, guidelines, and procedures necessary to maintain the safest work environment possible for our responders. We strive to provide the best possible response to the citizens and visitors of the City of Southaven.

Always Room to Learn More

Our Training Department is aggressive and is a top priority within our Fire Department. Southaven works with other area departments to assure seamless mutual response when necessary and to build relationships with area communities. Our personnel of over 100 responders pride themselves on their professionalism and knowledge of their job. We believe that an individual can never learn everything and that we must remain devoted to bettering ourselves, our department, and ultimately our City through training and education.

Training Center & Schools

Our training center is next to none. Towering four stories high, it offers advanced firefighter and scenario-style training to our personnel. Currently we are certified through the Mississippi Minimum Standards and Certification Board as a Level I training facility, currently one of only four within the State of Mississippi.  Safety is our number one priority for the community and so it is also with our personnel. We value safe and exceptional training for our firefighters so they may protect you in the most professional and knowledgeable way.

In addition to our departmental training, our firefighters attend Mississippi Fire Academy, area colleges, other local public service departments, as well as local technical schools. Our firefighters go above and beyond by educating themselves in advanced courses such as structural collapse, trench, and rope rescue and advanced extrication courses to name only a few.

Our training will continue and our personnel will remain vigilant all in an effort to protect you and your property. We also value one of our sayings in the fire service, “Everyone goes home.”
