As I evaluate and communicate new information for many hours daily, some of which is not good, I know how important a positive attitude is for all of us during this challenging time. I choose to keep my head right and know that God is in control of this situation. Please join me with a positive attitude and as I “tell you something good”, please also forward some positivity to another person today.
Let me introduce to you our talented team with the City of Southaven who helps me and serves our citizens in a tremendous way daily.
Today’s introduction is Andrea Mullen, our City Clerk. Andrea started her service with the City on September 17, 2013 as Assistant City Clerk. She was promoted to her current position of City Clerk in September, 2015. Prior to her service with the City, she worked as Executive Assistant to the Mayor for the City of Horn Lake from February, 2012 until September, 2013. From August 2010 until October 2011, she worked for Methodist Diagnostic Imaging Centers as a Referral Relationship Representative. Prior to this, she was Marketing Manager for Mid-South Pain Treatment Center from April, 2007 until October 2008; Administrative Assistant for Desoto County Tourism from February, 2002 until March, 2003; and Office Manager for Nationwide Marketing, Inc. from March, 1996 until January, 2002.
Andrea has continued her professional education by completing the Municipal Clerk, Assessor, and Collectors Certification Training Programs from the Mississippi State University Extension Service in 2013 and 2014. She received her A.A. Degree in Business Administration in 2005 from Northwest Mississippi Community College and is a 1996 Graduate of Horn Lake High School.
When considering professional achievements, Andrea humbly considers her promotion to City Clerk to be at the top, as well as her success in developing a team that feels her respect and encouragement, which has resulted in a happy, positive, energetic, and customer-oriented office operation.
When asked “Why do you do what you do?” Andrea responded, “My role consists of assisting many people from voter registration, notary services, obtaining a business license, processing invoices, working with vendors, assisting other departments, and purchasing supplies for the City, just to name a few. I am consistently challenged in my position and love every aspect of it. I have never experienced a place of employment where all departments work so well together as we have very talented, hardworking, and goal-oriented individuals that are always willing to help. Working in the Clerk’s office allows me to utilize my customer service skills to help many. It’s not just about the paycheck, I feel blessed to have found a position with such meaning.”
Andrea has been married to husband, Todd for 19 years. They have a son, Matthew (17) and daughter, Anna (14). Also a part of her family are a Westie named Bella, White Chocolate Lab named Mocha, and a bunny named Toby. When not working, Andrea enjoys exercising, but most of all, she enjoys being a Mom and being with her family.
Andrea “stepped-up big” for our city early in her career with us due to an illness of our previous City Clerk. She proved early on that she could handle the most challenging circumstances and has become a great leader for her department. Her responsibilities are very diverse and her supervision of the official records of the City makes her extremely valuable to our operation. As Mayor, I respect the pride she has in everything she does and rely on her accuracy and outstanding attention to detail daily. She’s a great teammate and we’re very fortunate to have her on our team. #tellmesomethinggood
