As I evaluate and communicate new information for many hours daily, some of which is not good, I know how important a positive attitude is for all of us during this challenging time.  I choose to keep my head right and know that God is in control of this situation.  Please join me with a positive attitude and as I “tell you something good”, please also forward some positivity to another person today.

Let me introduce to you our talented team with the City of Southaven who helps me and serves our citizens in a tremendous way daily.

Today’s introduction is Bradley Wallace, our Public Works and Facilities Director.  Bradley began his service with the City on April 29, 2002 when he was hired as Environmental Services Director.  He was promoted to Director of Operations in 2006 where he served until promotion to his current position in 2013.  Prior to joining the City, Bradley worked as a licensed architect from 1988-2002.

Bradley received his Bachelor of Architecture Degree from Mississippi State University in May, 1988.

Professionally, Bradley considers his licensure in architecture as one of his most valued achievements, but speaks more about how much he loves his current position with the City where he combines his skill sets with public relations, facilities knowledge, and personnel/project management to meet City objectives while, at the same time, maintaining a family-friendly schedule.  He remains steadfast with his mission of transforming Public Works and Facilities operations to the optimum level of efficiency and effectiveness aligned with his vision.

When asked “Why do you do what you do?” Bradley responded, “I have always enjoyed what I do in all my professions because I believe that I solve problems and help people.  In architectural practice, I have always thought I had the most rewarding profession because people come to doctors and lawyers when they have a problem that may be very bad, but as architects, we solve problems that make their building dreams come true, whether it’s a house, a business, or a school.  It’s a good dream and we get to make it happen!  With the City, I have always enjoyed the same opportunities to help people solve their problems and hopefully make their more varied dream of actually getting the government to help them come true!”

Bradley has been married to his wife, Jamie Katrena Wallace for 27 years and they have one son, Samuel Wallace who is currently studying and swimming at Wilmington College in Ohio.  When not working, Bradley enjoys family time, traveling, photography, and other artistic pursuits.

Bradley oversees a wide range of responsibilities for the City.  Public Works encompasses street maintenance; street lights; street right-of-way landscape maintenance, storm water drainage; all sanitation functions (garbage, rubbish, and recycling); and animal control.  In recent years, we have also added more facility maintenance functions back to our Facilities Division for more efficient operations.  Bradley and his staff work in the epicenter of public service.  From experience, I can tell you that no department fields more calls in the City operation than the one responsible for potholes and garbage pick-up!  Bradley has proven what he stated himself, that he likes solving problems and helping people.  I really appreciate that he never waivers, regardless of the number of calls, to solve problems for our citizens.  He is a valuable member of our team who I count on for solutions every day.  #tellmesomethinggood
