Health Insurance Change to BCBS for City Employees

Posted on November 10, 2014 at 4:51 PM by Darren Musselwhite

Due to the ever-present volatility in health insurance costs, the City recently explored other options to find the best value with regard to benefits, cost, and service to the City and employees.

The decision was made to place coverage with Blue Cross Blue Shield and open enrollment is underway now.

The City currently pays 100% of employee's health insurance cost.  Dependent coverage is paid by employees as well as supplemental options for dental, vision, life, and disability.

Employees and their families will now have the options to pay additional premium for lower deductibles ($1,000 individual/ $2,000 family) or reduce premium with higher deductibles ($3,000 individual/ $6,000 family) in addition to the standard deductible option of $2,000 individual/ $4,000 family.

Other notable improved benefits include the addition of MDLive which provides 24-hour medical care by phone or internet, Baptist and Methodist network providers, and a long-term disability option that provides a benefit until age 65.
