May 10, 2017 Update
The Rasco Rd extension is open for traffic! Striping will occur later this week and this project will be finalized within days. This project is another long-awaited and heavily-discussed project that will provide tremendous benefits for our city by drastically improving our Police, Fire, and EMS response time to nearby neighborhoods and help mitigate traffic congestion and travel times as it now provides a complete east-west corridor from Getwell to Highway 51.

The Board of Aldermen recently accepted the lowest and best bid of $745,631.87 from Enscor, LLC for this long-awaited transportation improvement project. This project is part of the City's comprehensive transportation improvement program and will be funded completely by the City.
The extension will connect the current break in Rasco at Swinnea to the break just west of Tchulahoma, which will make Rasco a continuous east/west arterial road from Getwell Rd to Highway 51. This connection will improve public safety, allowing much quicker access for our Fire and EMS responders in nearby residential areas, in addition to reducing traffic in Central Park and mitigating traffic congestion, in general.
Construction will begin in December, 2016 with completion projected in June, 2017.
