Duties & Responsibilities
The Planning Commission is a commission of citizens appointed by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen. It hears all applications pertaining to land use amendments, rezonings, conditional uses, subdivisions, and site plan reviews.
The submission deadline for all of the above applications is the first working day of the month and they will be heard by the Planning Commission on the last Monday of that month.
For example, if an application for final subdivision approval is submitted by January 3, the Planning Commission will hear the application on January 31. All decisions made by the Planning Commission are recommendations that must be sent to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen for final determination. Site plan review is the only exception. The decision of the Planning Commission on site plan reviews is final unless appealed to the Board of Aldermen.
